Terp Payment Plan (TPP)


An Important Change to the Terp Payment Plan

The Office of the Bursar is pleased to announce changes to the Terp Payment Plan that will enhance service for the 2017-18 academic year. We have selected Tuition Management Systems (TMS) as our exclusive payment plan administrator.

Through our relationship with TMS we will be able to offer you the following:

  • On-line access to set up your payment plan account, view your account or modify your budget.
  • Toll free customer service Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 10:00 pm. EST
  • Monthly payment plan statements.
  • No more paper payment plans to submit to our office.

Payment Plan Details

The Terp Payment Plan allows students and families to pay amounts due to the university in manageable monthly installments for the academic year or by semester.

  • Enrollment fee is $75 (non-refundable) for the annual plan and $50 (non-refundable) for the semester plan (fall and spring).
  • You can include most university charges: tuition, course fees, room, meal plan, parking permit, special math, health insurance, orientation charges, and differential tuition.
  • Prior balances must be paid in full before enrolling in a current Terp Payment Plan.
  • You must make a full month’s payment and pay the enrollment fee when you enroll in the plan.
  • $300.00 minimum term balance is required to enroll.
  • A budget calculator is available at umd.afford.com to estimate your expenses and monthly payment amount.
  • On-line access to set up your Terp Payment Plan account, view your account, or modify your budget is available 24 hours a day at umd.afford.com.
  • Monthly payment plan statements will be e-mailed to the email address you provided at plan enrollment.
  • Online payments, automatic monthly deductions from your checking or savings account and payment by mail are available at no additional cost. Credit card payment is available with related fees. Payments must be made to TMS to credit your plan.
  • Payments are due on the 5th of the month.
  • The late payment fee is $40.00 and the returned check fee is $30.00.

Important Information

  • Your plan amount will appear as a credit on your student account. As long as you pay the appropriate amount on time to TMS, you will not be subject to UMD late payment fees.
  • The TMS system is not directly connected to your UMD Student Account. It is your responsibility to make sure the budget and monthly payment are sufficient to cover the term bill. To view your current balance, log into: Testudo and select Student Account Inquiry from the dropdown menu. Parents must log in with an affiliate account via: registrar.umd.edu/parents.
  • Changes in financial aid, room, or board will affect your TMS budget and should be monitored.
  • Payment for miscellaneous charges, not included in TMS budgets, should be made directly to UMD.
